The Nebraska Department of Economic Development joins the Nebraska Manufacturing Extension Program, Nebraska Business Development Center, US Small Business Administration, and US Commercial Service in sponsoring ExporTech 2013!Transportation, communication and business operations have changed where and how business is done around the world. It takes hard work, innovation, vision and persistence to survive in an ever-changing, challenging, and globally competitive world market.
The Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Office of International Trade and Investment, works with existing businesses to expand their international marketing efforts as well as foster a business climate conducive to recruiting and supporting international business investment in the state.
In 2010, Nebraska products were sold to approximately 180 foreign countries, accounting for over $5.8 billion dollars in export sales, an increase of 60% over the past 5 years. The top five importers of Nebraska products were Canada, Mexico, Japan, China and South Korea. Major exports included feed grains, processed foods, agriculture & industrial machinery, chemicals and transportation equipment.
In addition we have a host of international business investments in the State of Nebraska. Perhaps the oldest and most recognizable is Kawasaki Motor Manufacturing Company in Lincoln. In 2009 they celebrated 35 years in Nebraska’s business community.

The Office of International Trade & Investment has established a variety of programs & services to promote Nebraska’s economy through the expansion of foreign markets for Nebraska products, increasing international investment in the State & creating a business climate conducive to the growth of international business activities.
While the Nebraska Department of Economic Development provides numerous programs to assist Nebraska businesses, it’s important to recognize the value of partnering with various other agencies and groups to further promote Nebraska’s international trade and investment. These partners include the U.S. Export Assistance Center, Nebraska District Export Council, Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Nebraska State Chamber, and Midwest International Trade Association, amidst many other chamber associations, educational institutions, service companies and foreign trade offices.
Our public/private partnerships support an international business office located in Tokyo, Japan for the sole purpose of promoting and supporting Nebraska’s international business interests in Japan. Established in 2006, this office, under the direction of Mr. Koji Nagasaka, assists Nebraska businesses and agencies investigate and enter the Japanese market.
We also support a contract with JZW International to provide assistance to Nebraska companies interested in developing business with China, and screening companies in China interested in doing business in Nebraska.
International business is a long-term commitment for our businesses, as well as the agencies supporting their efforts.
